Statement on environmental strategy
Our company has set itself the goal of keeping the environmental impact of our operations as low as possible, which is a challenge for a manufacturer of disposable medical technology products. Our long-term goal is to become CO2 neutral.
We certified our environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001 25 years ago and have been able to constantly reduce our energy and resource consumption ever since. We have successfully identified and reduced energy guzzlers and worked continuously on the thermal refurbishment of our main building, which is already over 50 years old.
Twelve years ago, when planning our Plant 2, we made sure from the outset to make it as energy-efficient as possible. The concrete core activation system implemented at that time makes it possible to achieve air conditioning of the building in winter as well as in summer using groundwater. Only during a few very cold winter days does additional heating have to be provided by natural gas.
Our efforts were particularly successful in reducing our electricity purchases. We have not only focused on developing savings measures, but have also started to produce electricity ourselves.
PV systems were installed on Plant 1 and Plant 2 for this purpose. In view of the current crisis, we decided to use other areas as well and to implement another system on Plant 4, but this first required the roof to be reinforced accordingly. These measures have resulted in a capacity of 500 kWp.
With the addition of Plant 2, we plan to install another system on its roof and on two facades to double the capacity in 2024.
Our employees are also an important part of implementing our sustainability efforts. We encourage the use of public transportation. With the new building, we will also increasingly support the use of bicycles, with shower and changing rooms, secure parking facilities and charging stations for e-bikes.
Our sustainability ambition does not end there. For both the plastic and metal components of our products, we are conducting extensive research to examine and reduce the environmental impact. To this end, we also plan to set up an environmental information system that will allow us to closely track material use and its consequences.
Leonhard Lang does not consider itself a pioneer in terms of environmental strategies. Rather, we see it as our responsibility to make our contribution to the preservation of a healthy environment. Sustainability and resource conservation are integral parts of our self-image and are lived by us every day.
We are proud of our progress and will continue to work to reduce our environmental impact and promote sustainable practices in all areas of our business.
